Money matters

U$ dollars are legal tender on the islands.

The local currency (NAF) is the Antillean (or Aruban) Guilder, with an exchange rate linked to the American Dollar. The local currency is very hard to obtain in the UK - and so you should take cash in U$ dollars.

Some smaller shops will show prices in the local currency - NAF - but because there is a fixed exchange rate, they can quickly calculate the price in U$. They usually do this with a calculator and show you the price. The fixed exchange rate means there is no disadvantage in using dollars rather than the local currency.

There are cash dispensers on each island. Most shops and restaurants accept credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex).

Banks are open on Monday to Friday from 08.30 am to noon and from 13.30 to 15.30 or 16.00 pm. (some banks are closed during lunch hour).
