Fort Zoutman and the Willem III Tower

willem tower.jpg

Fort Zoutman was built in 1796, is Aruba's oldest building. The fort was built to protect Aruba from the enemies of those days such as The English and The French. Later on, in 1868, the tower, which served as a lighthouse was added. The lighthouse is said to be lighted for the first time at the birthday of the Dutch King Willem III and that's the reason why the tower got the name Willem III!

There is live music in the court every Sunday afternoon.
