
Oranjestad is the focus of nightlife, restaurants, clubs, bars, and Salsa is everywhere. The main 'strip' is around 800 meters long, very small scale Las Vegas! Despite being lively, it is not as frantic as it sounds. Aruba has a wide range of entertainment of a high standard, including live shows with Latin American dancing, and live music with local bands. Hotels have their own entertainment, tropical nights, beach barbecues, cocktail parties, water ballet, international entertainers, dance groups, steel bands, etc. It is worth checking what the hotels have on offer, this gives a lot of extra choice, without having to go into town. Aruba has a vast number of restaurants, some very high quality. But you have to look for some of them! Madame Janette's is in the countryside, 10 minutes from town, one of the best restaurants, not just on Aruba. There is a range of international cuisine, Indonesian, Japanese (including teppanyaki), Chinese, Dutch, Italian, French and Aruban restaurants, as always featuring fresh seafood. Aruba has a lot of casino's, some open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Many are inside International Hotels, in Oranjestad. Aruba Carnival week, in mid February, a multi-cultural celebration of Aruban society – with influences from Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Holland and Africa.
