Captain Dons

Captain Don's Habitat is a world famous diver's resort. Captain Don's Habitat built its reputation as an excellent dive resort and has now developed into a great holiday resort offering activities and amenities, to divers and non-divers alike, with kayaks and mountain bikes available on site, plus other facilities like the Intermezzo health spa with its range of health therapies, and a photo centre.

The resort overlooks the beautiful Caribbean sea, just over a mile along the coast from Kralendijk, the capital of Bonaire. Captain Don's offers good quality accommodation, most within 50 metres of the ocean, set in tropical gardens, with great dining and entertainment options and friendly service.

Custom built dive boats, 24 hour/7 day access to fresh tanks, lockers on the dock etc., make diving as easy and as enjoyable as possible, making Captain Don's the "home of diving freedom".

Founded in 1976, by renowned underwater environmentalist Captain Don Stewart, "Habitat" has been in the forefront of environmentally sound developments on Bonaire. Captain Don's plays an active role in the conservation of Bonaire's natural resources, from low impact construction methods, to solar water heaters and energy saving devices, as well as a state of the art waste water treatment system, every detail has been designed to have the least possible impact on the local environment.

The rooms and facilities are nestled in the lush gardens, which were carefully designed to eliminate harmful runoff into the fragile marine eco-system thriving right in front of Captain Don's Habitat. Captain Don's Habitat is very proud of its environmental legacy.

Having stayed at Captain Don's a few times, we can confirm that the walk through the gardens, full of tropical birds, from reception to any of the guest rooms, takes just a couple of minutes. Like most resorts on Bonaire, Captain Don's Habitat is small scale, very relaxed and peaceful. 

Habitat Bungalows are spacious two bedroom bungalows, each bedroom has an en suite bathroom, one bedroom has a Queen size bed (UK king size), the second has two single beds. Bungalows have a fully equipped kitchen, air conditioned dining room/living area with cable TV, a large covered patio. Habitat bungalows are located in the gardens 100 metres from the ocean. Flamboyant Apartments are large two bedroom apartments. Each bedroom has two Queen size (UK King size) beds and bathroom en suite, fully air conditioned, large living room, cable TV, fully equipped kitchen and a large covered patio or balcony. Flamboyant apartments are located in the gardens 100 metres from the ocean.
Deluxe Ocean View rooms are large air conditioned rooms, 2 Queen sized beds (UK King size), refrigerator, coffee maker, telephone, Wi-Fi Internet, cable TV, hair dryer. Bathroom has bath and shower. A very large patio door, almost the length of the room, leads to a private balcony or patio with table and chairs. The deluxe rooms are located around the pool with a view over the Caribbean Sea.
The Villa Studio has a very large air conditioned living room/bedroom, Queen sized bed (UK King size), ceiling fans, cable TV., fully equipped kitchen, bathroom and a covered patio. Situated close to the dive shop and restaurant, with a view over the Caribbean Sea.
Villa Suites have a spacious air conditioned living room with ceiling fans and cable TV, separate bedroom with a Queen sized bed (UK King size), bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, covered patio. Situated close to the dive shop, with a view over the Caribbean Sea.
Ocean Front Villa's have three bedrooms are ocean front and on two floors. Downstairs they have a spacious air conditioned living room with ceiling fans and cable TV, separate bedroom with a Queen sized bed (UK King size), bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, covered patio with a wonderful view over the Caribbean Sea. Upstairs they have two air-conditioned bedrooms en suite, with either a Queen size (UK king size) or twin beds, a small refrigerator, ceiling fans and cable TV. Some have balconies, all have the same superb ocean view.

Accommodation is decorated Caribbean style and all rooms have a safe. There is a daily maid and linen service.

Captain Don's Habitat Dive Operation is an SDI/TDI Professional Development Centre at the heart of the resort, close to the dock. Three 1-tank boat departures daily to over 70 moored sights on custom built dive boats. Each mooring buoy is limited to 1 boat so you'll have the reef all to yourself.

Total Diving Freedom has always been the concept at Captain Don's Habitat. Over 50 world class dives are within a 15 minute boat ride. Diving Freedom means 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with no rush or anxiety.

Take the big step off the divers-only pier "baby dock" and you're soon looking at clusters of starlet coral, surrounded by colourful wrasse and gobies. The drop-off starts in 30 feet only a few kicks away. Shore diving is a must on Bonaire - rated as the top shore diving destination in the world! Following accepted safe diving practices, you can grab a tank and go....when you want! 

Habitat Dive Operation offers - TDI/SDI, PADI, NAUI and SSI courses, and is equipped to handle all certification needs including Rebreather and Tri-Mix. Choose from over 20 specialty courses!

Rec Tek Scuba is based in the dive centre with it's own technical diving dedicated classroom. 

All equipment is available for sale or hire from the Captain's Locker. Photo Services are also available with a full selection of the latest photo and video equipment for sale or hire, instruction and private photo shoots. Habitat is the Caribbean home to the Nikon School of Underwater Photography. The Dive Centre also hires Ocean Kayaks. There are secure lockers on the dock for storing gear.
